Dainese Leathers

Dainese is an Italian company that specialises in protective wear for sports such as motorcycling, mountain biking and downhill skiing. The company was founded by its current President, Leno Dainese, in 1972. Dainese offers both an 'off-the-shelf' and a 'made to measure' service. This of course means that there is an opening for a variety of styles as well as prices. The majority of the 'leathers' are handmade and employ exotic materials, such as Carbon Fiber and Titanium. It's been using its racing sponsorship program to research and develop new innovations. Through 2008 and 2009, Dainese has debuted, through its sponsored rides in MotoGP, an airbag suit. Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo have both used this suit in races. The suit has an airbag integrated into the leather one-piece suit, which inflates around the neck and shoulders once the suit's internal microprocessor detects a crash. To this day, it has been recorded that every ride in the MotoGP that has worn Dainese Leathers who has had a crash, has never broken a bone. This is an achievement that Dainese is incredibly proud to have gained for their years of hard work and research.

There are many people that wear the Dainese Leathers in the MotoGP. The most recognisable are Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Nikki Hayden, Tom Sykes, Guy Martin and Jenny Tinmoth who is the first lady to ever ride in the MotoGP.

Kangaroo hide or Cowhide?

If you're looking for a thinner and more flexible constructed suit when racing, then you're going to want to choose Kangaroo hide, it is both lighter and more elastic than cowhide. Due to the substantial weight reduction it allows the rider to be much more comfortable and increases their mobility. The only downside to Kangaroo hide is that while it's more protective in any single event, the thin-ness of the hide means that it is less durable over time.

When it comes down to making the decision to go with either Kangaroo hide or Cowhide it really depends on how you tend to ride your motorcycle. If you're obsessed with shaving every last second and want the best performance out there on the track, then Kangaroo hide if your definite choice. If you are an occasional track-day rider that wants to get the most longevity out of your purchase, Cowhide will be your best friend for longer.

Dainese Fitting?

Dainese uses European sizing, which is designed to fit closer to the body than most standard cuts elsewhere in the world such as America. If you're ordering made to measure leathers, then you obviously won't have any issue with sizing as the manufacturers will be able to calculate your measurements accordingly.

Don't worry if your leathers are a different size. Dainese have made all of their leathers to have the same length zippers. The only exception to this is that women's zippers are shorter than men's garments. So if you decide to mix across gender lines you will not receive a proper alignment.
